End Violence Against Children! CoKF Campaign Expands

The 2010 Children of Kibera Foundation campaign, End Violence Against Children!, officially launched with the establishment of the Anti-Corporal Punishment teacher seminars (see previous blog posting). However, this week and last week, the CoKF team announced the start of the 2010 End Violence Against Children Poster Competition. Every Kiberan student, primary and secondary, in Kibera has been invited to participate by submitting a poster illustrating this year's theme. We hope to collect some amazing posters, which will be displayed at CoKF's Creative Arts Festival in October. Community leaders, such as the Chief, the District Officer, and the District Commissioner, are looking forward to what our students have to say about violence in their community. Good luck students!

POSTER CONTEST!

The Children of Kibera Foundation invites you to participate in the 2010 Art Competition!

END VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN! PROTECT OUR CHILDREN FROM VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS AND THE HOME

How does corporal punishment (caning, beating,

slapping, hitting) affect you in school?

How does violence in the home make you feel?

What would Kibera or even all of Kenya look like

if we stopped using violence against our children?

How do you feel children should be nurtured and loved?

Design a poster to show us your thoughts!

Participants must submit a poster that displays the theme: end violence against children. Posters should be designed to capture the attention of an audience by using bold letters, colors, and/or images. This is an ART competition, be creative and artistic but remember to make your message clear and bold.

∆≈ Posters will be judged based on artistic quality, creativity, and regard to the theme. ≈∆

Participants will be divided into categories of Pre-Unit–Class 3, Class 4–8, Form 1-4, and Teachers and Administrators. Top winners from each category will be awarded BIG prizes, including professional advertising of your poster!

Submit posters on or before Saturday, July 17th, 2010, to the Children of Kibera office at the Red Rose Middle School, in Olympic, across from Huduma Clinic. Must include name, class, school, and phone number on back side of poster.

Good Luck!
