We believe that an investment in education is an investment in future and that it is critical to lifelong positive transformation in a child’s life.
Sadly, High school education is beyond the reach of thousands of children in Kibera slums for it is not free. We aim to give hope, we aim to touch lives. Children of Kibera foundation has identified 30 high school students to support in 2012. These are orphans and vulnerable children who desperately need your help.

Ruth is a total orphan. A first born in a family of four children and currently all the four children are in the care of her uncle who has two children. They live in Gatwekera village, Kibera. Her uncle is a casual laborer at local construction sites while her aunt is a social worker. Their combined monthly income averages to Ksh -10,000. This amount cannot settle all the their household bills: House rent-Ksh 2000,Meals Ksh 150 daily plus school fees of the children at local primary schools where he pays for each child Ksh-500 per month.Winnie is the fifth born out of eight children. She lives with her brothers and sisters and their single mother in Kisumu Dogo, Kibera slums. The first four children are out of school and are unemployed. Two of her sisters dropped out of school because of teenage pregnancy, while another dropped out of school in grade eight due to lack of school fees. Winnie is likely to follow the same trend if left without any support. Her mother sells beauty products as a means of survival and this cannot support the whole family. Her dream of being a nurse one day looks bleak and all her efforts and determination may go at a waste.
Joy lives with both her parents and 2 brothers in Makina village, Kibera. Her mother sells vegetables at a local market while her father does whatever casual job that he stumbles upon. Their income pooled together averages Ksh 7000 per month. Out of these, Ksh 2000 pays their house rent, Ksh 600 electricity and at least Ksh 150 for meals daily. With Her eldest brother in Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology and the other in Kitui High school, her parents income cannot be adequate to pay for all the children’s school fees which amounts to Ksh 250,000.Joy has 2nd and 3rd term arrears in school fees.
Mercy is the 5th born in a family of seven. Her mother supports the family by doing domestic work for other people and making bead necklaces. Their 1st born dropped out of school due to teenage pregnancy, the 2nd and 3rd children are in various colleges, the 4th born is in form 4 at Olympic high school while the 6th and 7th children are in primary school.Their father deserted them in 2001 and does not support the family in any way. Her average monthly income is Ksh 6000. House rent-Ksh 2000, Food-Ksh 3000. Currently Mercy has school fees arrears amounting to Ksh 12000.
