Service is Part of our Fabric.

Service is quintessential of the fabric that sews up Children of Kibera Foundation.

On the morning of April 20th, 35 scholars congregated at our office ready to travel 10 Km to the south Eastern side of Nairobi to offer their service to the community at The Mama Ngina Children’s Home.

A brief history followed by a tour round the facility set the stage for a day that was going to be so special in the hearts of our scholars- if the eagerness to serve and the deluge of questions to the facility’s manager was something to go by. This session also proved to be so informative to our scholars since they were taken through step-by-step adoption process in Kenya. We were randomly divided in groups by the matron and assigned duties: washing clothes, cleaning classrooms and dormitories, slashing grass, cooking lunch, feeding babies and pressing cloths

After three hours of being soaked in activity, working as a team with the children and staff of the home, we were done: Sagging cloth lines, neatly folded clothes, clean rooms, manicured lawns and ready lunch. Everyone was delighted. This was followed by a joint lunch where we interacted with the children, shared our experiences and gave them hope. A brief session of sports and presentation of our donations marked the end of a day well spent at The Mama Ngina Children’s Home. We left at exactly 3.30 Pm.

“The team work, enthusiasm and being meticulous
in your work has really touched us”
-Matron (Mama Ngina Children’s Home)
